Batsford Gallery presents The Multiplicity of 'I', the solo exhibition of London-based artist Lin Li, running from 28th February to 3rd March 2025. This exhibition marks a pivotal moment in Li’s artistic practice as she transitions from digital media to the tactile depth of painting, unveiling a new collection that delves into the complexities of fragmented identity.
Li’s latest body of work embraces the fluidity of selfhood, where the "I" is continuously reframed through objects, symbols, and surreal forms. Her exploration of semiotics transforms everyday motifs into layered representations of personal and collective identity. Central to the collection is the recurring motif of the cherry, an emblem of transformation and introspection, symbolising the ever-shifting boundaries of self-perception.
Alongside her new paintings, the exhibition also features selected past works, offering a comprehensive view of Li’s evolving dialogue with identity, memory, and the subconscious. The Multiplicity of 'I' invites viewers to engage with the interplay of recognition and ambiguity, where each piece acts as a fragment of an ever-changing self, challenging conventional notions of individuality and belonging.
